Dayton Defeats Men's Soccer, 5-1

Oct. 8, 2004

DAYTON, OH - Dayton defeated Saint Joseph's as five Flyers each had a first-half goal at Baujan Field. With the 5-1 victory, Dayton improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's falls to 1-8-1 and 0-2-1 in the A-10.

Rolfe was taken down in the box in the fifth minute and Stebbins scored on the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. In the seventh minute, Rolfe found Nanchoff on the right side, and Nanchoff served a cross into the box which Jarun headed home for his third goal of the season.

In the 27th minute, Nanchoff played the ball wide to freshman Aaron Swanson, who sent a cross to Rolfe. Rolfe had a wide open net to shoot at and buried it for his second of the season.

Damion Blackburnpicked up his first career point setting up Nanchoff's goal. Blackburn slotted a ball to spring Nanchoff for the breakaway goal, his second of the year at the 39:30 mark.

Just 23 seconds later, Tenende capped the scoring for UD as Dasan Robinson set up the junior forward for his first goal of the year. Tenende broke down his defender one on one and beat the keeper to the left side.

Matt Troop played the first half in net for UD and made three saves for his fifth win of the year. Steve Ladislaw played the second half with a save, thought he did allow a goal by SJU's Matt Wurst to give the Hawks their only point in the 55th minute.

The Flyers out-shot Saint Joseph's 21-8 and held a 15-6 lead in shots on goal. Of UD's first 13 shots, 11 found the frame as UD jumped out to the 5-0 lead in the first.

The Hawks return to action on Sunday, October 10, when they travel to Xavier.
