Lafayette Picks Up 4-1 Win Over Men's Soccer

Sept. 18, 2004

BETHLEHEM, PA - Lafayette scored a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's in men's soccer at the Lehigh/Lafayette Classic. The Leopards improve to 5-1 while the Hawks fall to 1-5.

Scott Cunningham scored the lone goal for the Hawks in the second half.

Four different Lafayette players found the back of the net on the night. Just past the six-minute mark, Victor Krasij scored off an assist from Thomas Harju. Twenty-eight minutes later, Harju was on the helping end of Luke Sullivan's first collegiate goal, when he scored off a corner kick.

The Leopards (5-1) took a 3-0 advantage going into the intermission, as another freshman, Stefan McVeigh, scored the first goal of his Lafayette career. Classmate Mark Price assisted on the goal that was a strike from the top of the box at 43:38.

The Leopards padded their lead at 56:39 when freshman Scott Hawkins banged home his fourth goal of the season off a rebound in the box.

Cunningham headed in off a cross at 70:26 to end the shutout.

Junior Mike Tortora saw the bulk of the time in goal for Lafayette, surrendering one goal in 77 minutes.

The Leopards held a decisive 16-6 shot advantage and an 8-2 margin in corner kicks.

The Hawks return to action in the tournament on Sunday, facing host team Lehigh at 2:30 p.m.
