BRONX, NY - On a rainy afternoon, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team ended a dry spell, downing Fordham 2-1 for the program's first ever win in the Bronx.

The Hawks, who were 0-5 at Fordham entering today's play, found themselves down early as Fordham's Shaun Moamem scored from two yards out 17:08 into the game.

Fordham was forced to play shorthanded soon after as Stephen Francini was ejected for a collision with Saint Joseph's Andrew Takats. Takats was taken to the hospital with two broken bones in his leg, and required surgery.

The Hawks took advantage of the extra player, scoring in the 36th minute. Sophomore Chris Powell took a centering pass from Lateef Tural and beat Fordham's Stephen Faber to the far post to tie the score at one.

After almost 45 minutes of scoreless play, the Hawks caught a lucky bounce in the 81st minute. Saint Joseph's freshman John Creed headed a shot off the cross bar, which bounced off the ground and into the net.

Senior Chris DiStefano made four saves for the Hawks to earn the win, while Faber made three at the other end.

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-9-1 overall and 1-3-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham falls to 3-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play with the loss.

The Hawks return to action this Sunday at La Salle. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
