The Saint Joseph's soccer team fell to Rhode Island 3-0 at Finnesey Field.
Rhode Island opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Jeffrey Gonsalves scored off a pass from teammate Simon Gatti to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
The Rams dominated most of the first half, out shooting the Hawks 10-0.
Gonsalves added his second goal of the day 30 seconds into the second half to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Sasha Gotsmanov added the Rhode Island final goal in the 57th minute.
On the day, Rhode Island out shot the Hawks 23-5.
Hawks' senior goalkeeper Chris DiStefano (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) made five saves in the loss. Rhode Island's Dean Ruddy made three saves in posting the shutout.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 1-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Rhode Island improves to 6-4 overall and 1-1-0 in A-10.
Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday, October 8 at Dayton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
