Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight with 2-1 Win over La Salle

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman John Creed had his second game-winning goal in two matches to give Saint Joseph's a 2-1 win over La Salle in men's soccer action. The Hawks improve to 3-9-1 and 2-3-1 in the Atlantic 10.

Creed scored the winning goal in the Hawks' 2-1 victory over Fordham on Friday evening, for their first conference win of the year.

La Salle got on the board first when freshmen Ryan Dougherty, Andrew Perez and Jeremy Ortiz combined for a goal at 27:05, scored by Dougherty.

The Hawks tied it up when Cliff Jones scored at 32:31 off an assist from Chris Powell.

At the 30-minute mark of the second half, SJU earned a direct kick at 25 yards out. Creed took the kick and put it into the upper left of the goal, past La Salle keeper Stash Graham.

SJU goalkeeper Chris DiStefano made a number of tough saves to preserve the win. The senior finished the match with eight saves, facing 23 shots from the Explorers. Graham had two saves on six SJU shots.

Saint Joseph's has now won two in a row and hosts St. Bonaventure on Friday evening, October 22, at Finnesey Field.
