PHILADELPHIA -
Two second-half goals proved to be the difference Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field, as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell to Duquesne 2-0.
The Dukes came out of a scoreless halftime and controlled the ball for the beginning of the second stanza.
Duquesne opened the scoring in the 57th minute. Forward Noah Salsi received a corner kick from teammate Derek Mackenzie and headed it past Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Trevor Lyman to give Duquesne a 1-0 lead at 56:24.
Duquesne would add an insurance goal 10 minutes later as Greg Annan took a misplayed Hawks' pass and shot a low liner to the far right post, beating Lyman.
The Dukes out shot Saint Joseph's 23-9 for the game, with sophomore Chris Powell leading the Hawks with two shots.
Lyman was the hard-luck loser, making 11 saves in net for the Hawks. Duquesne's Zach Varga made three saves to earn the win.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 3-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne improves to 10-6-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play.
The Hawks return to action Friday, October 29 at Richmond. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
