WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's soccer team (6-8-3, 5-3-2 Atlantic 10) extended its season-best winning streak to five games with a 2-shutout versus Saint Joseph's (3-13-1, 2-6-1 Atlantic 10) at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

GW dominated the pace of play, outshooting the Hawks, 22-6, including a 7-0 margin in the opening half. The Colonials broke through for a goal in the 69th minute when junior Frank Ambrosio headed a cross from sophomore Jeremiah Burke past Saint Joseph's keeper Trevor Lyman to take a 1-0 lead.

Junior Ben Mortimer tacked on an insurance goal for the Colonials when he converted a penalty kick chance at 79:28 after Saint Joseph's foul in the box that resulted in a yellow card.

Junior goalkeeper Derek Biss made two saves to record his second straight shutout. Lyman kept the Hawks in the match by making seven stops.

Freshman Josh Simon paced the Hawks with four shots.

The Hawks close out the campaign next Saturday, November 6 against local rival Temple at 7 p.m. at Finnesey Field.
