HAWK WOMEN TO FACE BOSTON UNIVERSITY IN PRESEASON WNIT

PHILADELPHIA (7/15/04) - Saint Joseph's will open its 2004-05 campaign by hosting Boston University in the first round of the 2004 Preseason WNIT on Friday, November 12. The field for the prestigious tournament, which kicks off the women's college basketball season, includes three top 25 teams and nine squads that qualified for the postseason last year. The matchup will also mark the return of former Pennsylvania coach Kelly Greenberg to Philadelphia in her first game as the head coach of BU.

Duke, Notre Dame and Ohio State highlight the 16-team tournament, which concludes with a championship game on November 20 or 21. If the Hawks defeat Boston University, SJU will face the winner of Ohio State-Bowling Green on Sunday, November 14. All games are played on home campuses.

Saint Joseph's finished its season 22-11 (12-4 Atlantic 10), advanced to the A-10 Championship game and reached the WNIT Quarterfinals. The postseason run was the deepest any SJU women's basketball team had reached in the program's history. SJU graduates six seniors, including four 1,000 point scorers, but welcomes back juniors Kelly Springman, Faith Gross, and Maura McBryan and sophomore Ayahna Cornish.

The Terriers reached the America East Championship for the second straight season and went 19-11 overall and 12-6 in the conference.
