ROBERT M. GILLIN, JR. BOATHOUSE TO HOST COMMUNITY ROWING EVENT

PHILADELPHIA (07/30/02) - The newly-dedicated Robert M. Gillin, Jr. Boathouse will host the Fairmount Park Rowing Camp's race with the Wilmington Community Rowing Program this Thursday, August 1. The five-event racing program, which will commence at 11:00 a.m. will end at the Gillin Boathouse with an awards ceremony scheduled for 12:30 p.m. A barbecue will follow after the ceremony. The Gillin Boathouse, which was dedicated on June 15, 2002, is the first new boathouse on the Schuylkill River in 98 years. Hosting this regatta is the first step in a long-term partnership between the University and the Fairmount Park Commission. Saint Joseph's and the Gillin Boathouse will host the Fairmount Park Rowing program in the future. The Fairmount Park Rowing Camp is designed to provide an experience for youth in the city who have not had the opportunity to experience the sport of rowing. For more information on Thursday's event, contact Saint Joseph's University Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Don DiJulia at 610-660-1707 or Fairmount Park Commission Rowing Director Roger Noland at 215-685-3936.
