PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/29/01) - The Saint Joseph's University men's rowing team participated in the Head of the Schuylkill this past Saturday and then returned to the waters Sunday to host the Atlantic 10 Head Race. At the Head of the Schuylkill, the Hawk men's varsity eight boat led by senior Jim O'Connor, finished 22nd with a time of 14:12 in the Championship 8 while the men's Lightweight 8, led by sophomore Justin Marconi and junior Jason Bansch, raced to an 11th place finish with a time of 14:18. The freshman 8 boat also fared well, placing 18th of 46, ahead of the Penn "B" team, Colgate and North Carolina. On Sunday, the men's varsity 8 "B" team placed 4th with a time of 14:29, while the "A" team recorded an 8th place finish with a time of 14:55. The men's four team won the event with a time of 15:36. Both teams are coming into their own as they prepare for their regular season schedule held in the spring. SJU's men's and women's teams conclude their fall season at the Frostbite Regatta in Philadelphia, Saturday, November 10th.
