HAWK WOMEN WALLOP WAGNER, 13-3, ON SOGGY SUNDAY

PHILADELPHIA (03/30/03) - Senior Kelly Butler scored five goals, all during an 8-0 run to lead Saint Joseph's over Wagner, 13-3, in women's lacrosse action. The Hawks persevered through less than ideal conditions, as temperatures were in the 30s and a steady rain poured down throughout the contest. SJU improves to 2-5 on the season, while Wagner drops to 2-6. Junior Amie Schmoltze scored the game's first goal just one minute into the first half and senior Brett Dymarczyk took a pass from freshman Kerry O'Connell and deposited the ball in the back of the net to give SJU a 2-0 lead. Wagner would score three minutes later, cutting the Hawk lead to just one. Butler, the Hawks leading scorer, would then begin to take over. She started an 8-0 run at the 17:25 mark of the first half that would separate the hosts from their Staten Island counterparts. Junior Kristen Teklinsky would tally two straight early in the run before Butler scored the next four, the last at the 21:43 mark of the second half. Senior Lauren Foley would then net the first of her three goals on the day, giving SJU a 10-1 advantage. The Seahawks scored two goals on sophomore netminder Courtney Huff, but the Hawks tacked on three more to close out the scoring. The 13 goals ties the season-high for goals in a game, both Hawk wins. Huff stopped five shots before giving way to freshman Lura Turner, who stopped two shots in her first collegiate action. The Hawks held decisive advantages in shots (41-15) and groundballs (22-5). Beginning with Friday's Atlantic 10 matchup with Richmond, Saint Joseph's plays its next four contests and six of its next seven against conference opponents.
