DAYTON, OH (03/12/03) - For the third straight season, three Saint Joseph's University men's basketball players were selected to the 2003 Atlantic 10 All-Conference team as voted on by the league's coaches.
Junior Jameer Nelson and sophomore Delonte West were named first team all-conference, marking the first time SJU had two players named first team all-Atlantic 10. Sophomore Pat Carroll was named to the third team.
Joining Nelson and West on the first team all-conference team is A-10 Player of the Year David West, Xavier's Romain Sato, St. Bonaventure's Marques Green and George Washington's Chris Monroe.
The teams were announced at the A-10 Awards reception held on Wednesday evening at the Dayton Marriott.
West was also named the league's Most Improved Player. He is just the second Hawk player to earn the award joining Rashid Bey, who earned the honor in its first year being awarded (1996-97).
Nelson became just the second Hawk player to earn a spot on the all-defensive team. Dmitri Domani, the 1997 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, is the other Hawk so honored.
Rhode Island's Jim Baron was named A-10 Coach of the Year, edging out Hawk Coach
Phil Martelli, who earlier was named USBWA District I Coach of the Year, and Thad Matta of Xavier.
