EGAN AND SCOTT TALLY HAT-TRICKS IN 13-8 WIN AT LAFAYETTE

EASTON, PA (4/16/04) -- The women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the early going and held on for a 13-8 non-conference win at Lafayette. Junior Shannon Scott and redshirt freshman Jenny Egan each recorded hat-tricks as the Hawks bump over the .500 mark at 4-3. Lafayette drops to 3-11 on the season.

After neither team could find the back of the net in the game's first 13 minutes, sophomore Lindsay Brown scored the first game of the contest to give SJU a 1-0 lead at the 17:09 mark. The Hawks scored three more tallies, two from Scott and another from sophomore Kerry O'Connell to take a 4-0 lead with 15:48 to play before halftime.

The Leopards matched the visitors 4-0 run with four unanswered to tie the score at four with just over eight minutes remaining. The score would remain knotted until a senior Megan Gresh tally with 1:26 to play. Despite less than 90 seconds on the clock, the two teams combined to score five goals including an Egan tally with five seconds to go that put SJU up 7-6 at the half.

Senior Amie Schmoltze and Kristen Teklinsky each added early second half goals, but Lafayette cut the Hawk lead to 9-8 midway through the half. Saint Joseph's went on to score four unanswered to seal the win, including two more from Egan and Scott's third of the game.

Junior Courtney Huff made three saves in between the pipes to earn the win.

St. Joe's returns home to Finnesey Field for an Atlantic 10 showdown with city rival La Salle on Sunday at noon.
