Hawks Place 6th at George Washington Invitational

Washington D.C.(4/14/00) - The team had a great weekend in our nation's capitol. The Hawks took to the Potomac with some of the best competition in the country and certainly held their own in all of the races.The Hawks finished 6th in points in the field of 13, ahead teams such as Marietta, Princeton, and UMass. The Men's Varsity 8 faced #13 Temple and Marietta in the heat and #15 Navy and #16 Columbia in the other heats. The Hawks finished 2nd in the heat behind Temple to secure a spot in the petit final to face Marietta again, GW, and George Mason. In the final Marietta took a lead on the pack at the 500, but the Hawks and GW responded pulling even with Marietta. As SJU approached the last 500, it was a tight pack. Marietta took a lead and GW edged the Hawks in the final 3 strokes. The Freshman Men's 8 also made the Grand Final against Marietta, Navy and Georgetown. The Hawks rowed well and finished 4th behind Navy, Marietta and Georgetown.
