PITTSBURGH (4/20/02) - Duquesne jumped all over visiting Saint Joseph's in women's lacrosse, taking a 9-1 lead over the first 23 minutes en route to a 14-7 women.
Kelly Butler led the Hawks, 2-9, 1-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, with two goals while Lauren Dutch tallied four times for the Dukes (5-8, 3-2).
Dutch posted the games first two goals as the host Dukes jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first 12 minutes.
Kristin Teklinsky put SJU on the board at the 13:12 mark, but Duquesne answered with five unanswered scores to take its commanding 9-1 lead.
Butler and
Amie Schmoltze scored back-to-back goals for the Hawks to close the gap to 9-3, but Dutch ended the half with her fourth goal, giving Duquesne a 10-3 margin at intermission.
Duquesne scored three of the first four goals in the second half to up its lead to 13-4, and effectively ending any hopes of a SJU comeback.
Ginger Flocco added three goals for the Dukes while Katie Harner and Becca West each tallied twice.
Shannon Hungate and
Megan Gresh all scored once for the Hawks.
Courtney Huff, playing just her second ever game in goal at any level, stopped nine shots for SJU.
The Hawks next play at Richmond on Friday, April 26 (4:00 p.m.).
