BUTLER, FISHER NAMED TOP SENIOR ATHLETES

PHILADELPHIA (05/19/03) - Tim Fisher and Kelly Butler have been named the recipients of the Class of 1950 Award given to the top male and female senior athletes at Saint Joseph's University. The Award was presented at the Undergraduate Award Ceremony on Friday, May 16, which was held in conjunction with University's commencement exercises. Fisher, a standout performer in both cross country and track, is one of just two Atlantic 10 Conference runners to win consecutive championships at 5000 meters, winning the conference title at both the 2002 and 2003 Indoor Championship. His 2002 winning time of 14:52.83 ranks as the fifth best in A-10 history. Fisher, who served as track co-captain as a senior, also placed second at 5000 meters at both the 2002 and 2003 A-10 Outdoor Championships and his time of 14:51.92 during the 2002 meet ranks as third best in conference history. In cross country, the Fayetteville, N.Y. native helped the Hawks win the 2000 A-10 Championship as a sophomore and place second in each of the last two seasons. A three-time Academic All-Conference selection, the accounting major was named the 2003 A-10 Student Athlete of the Year in indoor track. Like her male counterpart, Butler has excelled in two sports during her Saint Joseph's career, leading both field hockey and lacrosse in scoring in each of the past two seasons. A four-year starter in field hockey, the Clarks Green, Pa. native earned all-Atlantic 10 honors as both a junior and a senior, placing third and second in scoring in the A-10, respectively. For her career, she tallied 16 goals and dished eight assists for 40 points. In lacrosse, she was a two-year starter and scored 48 goals for the Hawks over that period, including 31 goals in her senior campaign. She also served as team captain for both sports. Off the field, the interdisciplinary health services major was twice named to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 field hockey team.
