MEN'S ROWING IMPRESSES AT NAVY DAY REGATTA

PHILADELPHIA (10/11/03) - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team boated an impressive six eights as it kicked off the fall season with an impressive showing at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. Attacking the races with an aggressive style of rowing, the Men's Varsity 8 finished a strong 6th place in a very competitive field of 14, finishing just behind Temple in the premier race of the day. The Men's Lightweight 8 rowed a tough race in one of the most competitive fields of the day placing 6th place with a speedy time of 13:38. The highly touted Men's Freshman 8 looked awesome in one of the closest races of the day . The Hawks "A" boat finished 4th just seven seconds behind first Place Navy. The Second Freshman 8 had a fantatsic row as well, finishing 8th in the field of 18. The Men's JV 8 and Dad Vail Varsity 8 finished 5th of 9 and 4th of 8 respectively. Both eights boasted some freshman rowers who took the water for the first time as Hawks and rose to the challenge of racing some very experienced boats. The men next take to the water on the Charles River in Boston Mass. at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on October 18 and 19.
