HAWKS LOSE OVERTIME BATTLE WITH THE BONNIES IN WOMEN'S LAX, 13-12

PHILADELPHIA -- (04/08/04) -- The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell in overtime to St. Bonaventure University by a score of 13-12 on a rain soaked Finnesey Field. Sophomore Kerry O'Connell scored five goals and senior Kristen Teklinsky added four tallies for the Hawks in a losing effort. The loss drops Saint Joseph's to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic 10, while St. Bonaventure improves to 4-2, and 1-1 in the conference.

Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Teklinsky scored for the Hawks, less than a minute into the game, but the Bonnies responded in a big way by scoring the next four tallies to take a 4-1 lead. The Hawks battled back to cut the lead to 4-3 off of two more Teklinsky goals. St. Bonaventure added another goal, but back to back goals from Shannon Scott and Kerry O'Connell tied the score at 5-5. The Bonnies responded with a goal of their own with under a minute left in the first half, to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

St. Bonaventure scored the first two goals of the second half, to take an 8-5 lead, but the Hawks battled back once again on a pair of goals by Kerry O'Connell to cut the defecit to 8-7. The Bonnies responded with another goal to increase the lead back to two, however the Hawks answered with goals by Lindsay Brown, Kristen Teklinksy and O'Connell to take a 10-9 lead with under five minutes to play. The Bonnies rallied late in the game and tied the score at 10-10 with under a minute to play to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Bonnies opened the scoring with two early tallies. The Hawks responded with Kerry O'Connell's fifth goal of the game, but St. Bonaventure would score once again to take the 13-11 lead. Shannon Scott tried to start a late Hawk threat with her second goal of the game, but the rally would come up short as the Hawks fell by a final score of 13-12.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on April 16th, when they head to Lafayette to take on the Leopards at 7:30 p.m.
