PHILADELPHIA (3/13/04) - The awards continue to pile up for Saint Joseph's head coach
Phil Martelli and standout point guard
Jameer Nelson.
Martelli was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 2 Coach of the Year. He is also the recipient of the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award as named by CollegeInsider.com.
Nelson was selected the National Player of the Year by SportsIllustrated.com, CollegeInsider.com, FoxSports.com, as well as ESPN.com.
Nelson was named a first team All-America on all of those sites. Backcourt mate Delonte West joined him as an All-America on CollegeInsider.com and was an All-America second team honoree as chosen by Sports Illustrated.com.
Both Martelli and Nelson captured the top two awards from the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The 27-1 Hawks, the nation's top-ranked team, await their opponent and destination for the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
