PITTSBURGH, PA (04/14/02) - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team competed in the Atlantic 10 championships this past weekend at Duquesne University. The Hawks notched an 11th place finish after defeating La Salle 4-3.
SJU was swept 4-0 by #8 seed Rhode Island in first round of competition and were shut-out by Temple, 4-0, on Saturday. Against the Explorers, #1 seed
Francisco Velazquez, was victorious over La Salle's Karim Rahimtoola 6-2, 2-5. Other victors for SJU included
Van Homer Pangilinan, 6-4, 6-1,
Bob Cappelli, 6-2, 6-2 and Pat Mulvaney.
Shawn Farrokh dropped to a 6-4, 6-1, decision while
Damon Dennin fell 6-1, 6-3.
Mulvaney's victory at #6 clinched the win for the Hawks as they went on to defeat La Salle 4-3, securing an 11th place finish.
The Hawks, now 8-13 on the season, will face Drexel, Tuesday, on the Finnesey Courts for the final home match of the season.
