MEN'S BASKETBALL SIGNS FIRST RECRUIT

PHILADELPHIA (05/02/03) - Arvydas Lidzius, a 6-9 forward from Lithuania by way of prep school powerhouse Montrose Christian in Rockville, Md., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's basketball for Saint Joseph's University. A good perimeter shooter who runs the floor well, Lidzius was the sixth man for Montrose Christian, helping his team, arguably the best in the Metro DC area, post a 20-1 record. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Five of his teammates have or will sign NLI's with Division I schools this year. Lidzius is the first student athlete to sign with head coach Phil Martelli's Hawks for next season. SJU returns four starters, including honorable mention All-America selection Jameer Nelson, from a team that posted a 23-7 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection. The Hawks, coming off a record three straight years of appearing in the Associated Press Top 25, are already ranked 14th by an ESPN.com preseason poll
