PHILADELPHIA (3/30/04) - On behalf of the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff of Saint Joseph's University men's and women's basketball, I extend my deepest gratitude to all who helped make their respective seasons such an unparalleled success. Every fan and well-wisher from across the country, whether long-standing or a recent convert, whether alumnus or friend, helped to fuel the Hawks' run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament and to the final eight of the WNIT. We are thankful to each and every one of you.
This season also required considerable sacrifice from many people. To the countless students and faculty who withstood a relentless onslaught of media scrutiny with class and dignity; to users of the Sports Complex who graciously stepped aside when we had to close the facility; to the staff in Security and Facilities Management who help us throughout the year; to long-time supporters who were unfortunately shut out of post-season tickets; and, finally, to faculty, staff and administrators who went above and beyond the call in their hard work and dedication to the university's cause, I thank all of you for your tremendous understanding, skill and patience.
One loss does not diminish the luster of the seasons that were a gift to both the men's and women's programs, as well as the university itself. The numbers speak for themselves, but more important was the light that was shined on all of you. An entire nation enjoyed a clear view of the passion and striving for excellence that are hallmarks of a Jesuit education at Saint Joseph's. And for that we are forever grateful.
Sincerely,
Don DiJulia
Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics
