SJU CAPTURES A GOLD MEDAL AT ATLANTIC 10'S

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ (4/27/02) - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team captured a gold medal in the lightweight eight at the Atlantic 10 Championships to highlight a strong day on the Cooper River. The lightweight eight of coxswain Heather Alba, stroke Justin Marconi, Pat McGettigan, Sean McCullagh, Jason Bansch, Brian Pirritano, Lee Bink, and Joe Francks continued its dominance of Fordham, an A-10 and Dad Vail rival, as they bested the rams on the water for the fifth straight time this season. The Hawks captured the gold medal by three seconds with a time of 6:07.04. The freshman men and varsity eight fell short of their 2002 nemisis, George Washington but gained alot of speed since racing the Colonials earlier this season. The Hawks will next compete at the Dad Vail Regatta, Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11 on the Schuylkill River.
