DELAWARE COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP ON THE DIAMOND

NEWARK, DE (2/29/04) - The University of Delaware baseball team (3-4) completed a three-game sweep of Saint Joseph's (1-8) with a 26-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Freshman Mike Gentile had a couple of hits for the Hawks. UD erupted for five runs in the second and added eight in the third and six in the sixth to build up a 19-0 lead and coasted to the win. SJU scratched across a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Gentile went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Saint Josephs while Michael Davis, Matt Godusky and Jake Iampietro each had an RBI for the Hawks. Junior Chris Garrick picked up the win for Delaware as he went five innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out a career-high 10 batters. Jason Volker took the loss for the Hawks (1-8), allowing 11 earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, walking two and striking out one. The Hawks travel to Delaware State on Tuesday and host Towson on Wednesday before departing for Florida for Spring Break.
