PHILADELPHIA (09/11/03) - Rashana Barnes, a 2002 graduate of Penn State University, has been named Director of Women's Basketball Operations at Saint Joseph's University. The former All-Big 10 center was a key cog on the Nittany Lions' trip to the 2000 NCAA Final Four and was a 2002 third round pick of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.

Cindy Griffin said. "She is a local talent who won a Philadelphia Catholic League Championship and went on to college and played in the Final Four."
In her present role, Barnes will organize the film exchange with Hawk opponents, compile scouting reports and assist with travel plans. She will also work closely to coordinate SJU's women's basketball camps and clinics. Additionally, she will assist in the operation of the Hawk Hill Roundball Club, SJU's women's basketball booster organization, as well as, the Kids Fun Club and team marketing and promotions.
Barnes was a two-year starter in the post for former Hawk head coach Rene Portland, posting career averages of 8.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. A 2002 second team All-Big 10 pick, the Philadelphia native tallied 9.5 ppg and 6.9 rpg. while helping the Nittany Lions to the Sweet Sixteen. The team captain finished her career third on the Lady Lion blocked shots list with 189 and is only the 11th player in PSU history to total over 1,000 points (1,024) and 700 rebounds (728).
The West Catholic High School graduate holds a degree in Sports Marketing from Penn State. Since graduation, Barnes has coordinated the Philadelphia Sixers Summer Hoops Tour and worked as the assistant basketball director of Tri-State Sports. While at PSU, Barnes was a counselor at the Nittany Lions' Summer Basketball Camp and the Cathy Rush Future Stars Basketball Camp.
"St. Joe's is taking the next step and Rashana's experience as a player will rub off on our current players and recruits," Griffin said. "We are very fortunate to have her."
