HAWK WOMEN PICKED TO REPEAT IN ATLANTIC 10 EAST

PHILADELPHIA (11/11/03) - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team is picked to repeat as East division champions in the 2003-04 Atlantic 10 preseason poll, as predicted by the media and coaches. Coming off a 19-11 season and a return trip to the WNIT, the Crimson and Gray received 13 first place votes compared to second-place Temple's two. Three Hawks, Irina Krasnoshiok, Erin Brady, and Stephanie Graff were named to the preseason all-conference teams. A preseason honorable mention All-America pick by Street and Smith's, Krasnoshiok earns second team honors after a 2002-03 campaign in which she led the team with 14.3 points per game and was second in rebounding at a 5.8 per game clip. A first team All-Big 5 and third team all-Atlantic 10 selection, the senior was tabbed the team's Offensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player last winter. Brady, a senior co-captain and last year's team MVP, was named to the conference's third team. A transfer from American, the Weatherly, Pa. product led the Hawks in assists (3.9 per game) and steals (2.1) last season. A second team All-Big 5 selection, Brady scored 11.8 ppg and shot 48.0 percent from the floor. Graff, also a senior co-captain, joins Brady on the third team. A bruising inside presence, the Drexel Hill, Pa. native led the squad in rebounding (7.3) and was third in scoring (11.4) last year. The Hawks' all-time leader in rejections (99), Graff needs 224 points to reach 1,000 for her career. An elementary/special education major, Graff was an academic all-conference and Big 5 selection in 2002-03. The first team is comprised of Xavier's Tara Boothe, Richmond's Kate Flavin, Duquesne's Candace Futrell and George Washington's Cathy Joens and Ugo Oha. Krasnoshiok is joined on the second team by Candice Dupree (Temple), Amber Goppert (Richmond), Denise King (Rhode Island), and Anna Montanana (George Washington). On the third team are Kathleen Foley (La Salle), Stefanie Miller (Dayton), Cyndi Stull (Dayton), Brady, and Graff. In the East division, SJU is followed by Temple, Rhode Island, Fordham, Massachusetts, and St. Bonaventure. George Washington, the defending Atlantic 10 champions, are picked to repeat in the West, followed by Richmond, Xavier, Duquesne, Dayton and La Salle. Saint Joseph's opens its 2003-04 campaign on Saturday, November 22 with a home matchup against Drexel. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
