SECOND HALF RUN LIFTS SJU OVER PENN, 74-55, IN BIG 5 PLAY

PHILADELPHIA (2/10/04) - Senior Irina Krasnoshiok matched season highs with 24 points and 13 rebounds and classmate Erin Brady added 17, including 12 during a 21-2 second half spurt, to lift Saint Joseph's to a 74-55 Big 5 win over Penn. The victory keeps the Hawks perfect all-time against Penn (29-0) and improves their record to 14-7 overall and 2-1 in the City Series. Down by two points at the 11:58 mark of the second half, it appeared that SJU's perfect mark against the Quakers (11-7, 1-3) was finally going to come to an end. Instead, the play of Brady sparked the Crimson and Gray's most decisive run of the season (21-2) for their second Big 5 win. The co-captain scored 10 straight points at one point, including three lay-ups, two foul shots and a short jumper. Brady finished the game with eight rebounds and five steals, both tying season highs. While Brady controlled play on the perimeter, it was Krasnoshiok who owned the paint. The 6-5 center used a significant height advantage to shoot 10-for-13 from the field for her 24 points. Her offensive arsenal included low-post moves, short-range jumpers, and a barrage of three-point shots that proved to be nearly unstoppable for the Red and Blue. Sophomore Maura McBryan scored a season-high 12 points, including eight in the first half, on 10-for-10 shooting from the charity stripe. McBryan also played a fantastic floor game in her 34 minutes of action, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing a career-high five assists against just one turnover. Senior Amra Mehmedic ontinued to shoot the ball well of late, scoring 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting from behind the arc. In her last three games, the southpaw is averaging 12.3 ppg. and shooting 9-for-13 from three-point range. Jewel Clark scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but a variety of SJU defenders held the All-Big 5 pick to 6-for-21 shooting from the floor. The Hawks return to Atlantic 10 play by hosting Rhode Island on Thursday at 7:00 p.m
