The Hawks own an 8-0 record, for their best start since 1964-65. The Hawks defeated California, 59-57, on a gamewinning shot by
Jameer Nelson with five seconds to play in the Pete Newell Challenge on Dec. 20. SJU then moved up to a season-high ranking of 10th in both national polls, Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today.
Pacific ended a significant Saint Joseph's streak last season when the Tigers scored a 62-50 win over the visiting Hawks on Dec. 28. That gave SJU its first loss of the year, ending a seven-game winning streak.
Nelson continues to lead the Hawks with his 19.3 scoring average.
Delonte West is scoring 17.5 points per game.
Pacific is 4-5 coming off a 73-72 loss to San Francisco on Dec. 23.
Saint Joseph's takes a short road trip to end 2003 on Tuesday, December 30, when the Hawks visit Delaware. Game time is 8 p.m. for the contest which will air locally on CN8.
