Kristin Teklinsky scored six goals to lead Saint Joseph's to a 13-8 win over St. Bonaventure on a wet Finnesey Field. Sunday's game honored the team's four graduating seniors -
Anne Blank,
Katie Helder,
Melissa Hieber and
Maura McNamara. Kelly Chevez led the way for St. Bonaventure with three goals and one assist.
Freshman
Shannon Scott tallied three goals while juniors Brett Dymarcyzk,
Shannon Hungate,
Lauren Foley and
Kelly Butler all chipped in one goal in the winning cause for the Hawks.
SBU jumped out to an early start when Chevez scored an unassisted goal in the first three minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later the Bonnies notched a pair of goals to push their lead by three. Hungate responded as she cut through a sea of black jerseys to blast a goal into the net. Dymarcyzk followed up off an assist from Hungate 10 minutes later to cut the Bonnies lead to one. Chevez netted her third goal before the Hawks broke lose, scoring four unanswered goals in seven minutes to take a 6-4 lead at the half.
Teklinsky scored in the second minute of the second stanza before SBU's Tracy Domm netted the Bonnies' first goal in 15 minutes. Butler, Teklinsky and Scott all tallied consecutive goals to push the Hawks' lead to 10-5. The Bonnies were able to muster three more goals, but the Crimson and Gray matched each goal to end the game with a final score of 13-8.
SJU's defense aided in the win as Blank and junior
Kathleen Burke halted much of St.Bonaventure's offensive momentum. Saint Joseph's outshot SBU, 34-22. Hawk keeper Courtney Huff made 15 saves in the cage while the Bonnies; Katy Jensen made eight. .
SJU concludes its season with a 3-10 overall record, 2-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
