PHILADELPHIA, PA (03/12/04) - Saint Joseph's topped Marist College by a score of 11-5 on Finnesey Field in what was the season opener for both squads. St. Joe's senior
Kristen Teklinsky had a monster game, scoring five goals for the Hawks. Sophomore
Kerry O'Connell also played a solid game, adding four tallies and an assist for the victorious Hawks.
Marist jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal less than five minutes into the game, but Saint Joseph's scored seven goals over the next thirty minutes to give the Hawks a 7-1 advantage early in the second half. O'Connell and Teklinsky each scored three goals during the span to give St. Joe's the advantage. Marist rallied with two scores of their own to cut the lead to 7-3, but O'Connell's fourth goal, off an assist from
Megan Gresh, and Teklinsky's fourth and fifth tallies ended the Marist threat. Senior
Amie Schmoltze added her second goal of the game, in the closing moments of the game, to give the Hawks the 11-5 win.
Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Huff,had a solid game in net for the Hawks, making 11 saves on 16 shots.
St. Joe's returns to action on March 17th, when they take on Lehigh University at 4:30 PM on Finnesey Field.
