BRONX, NY (2/15/04) - Sophomore
Andria Smythe set a pair of new school sprint records and also posted two ECAC qualifying times to lead a strong SJU women's contingent that placed 11th in the 30 team University field at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational.
Smythe tied her own school mark in the 60m dash (7.58) and then eclipsed
Brooke Gilliford's record in the 200m with a time of 25.17. Smythe's 60m time was an ECAC qulaifier. She also leaped an Atlantic 10 season-best 19-2 1/2" in the long jump to qualify for ECACs.
In addition to Smythe, SJU's 4x400 relay of Freshmen
Amanda Guthridge and Julie Lenz, junior Collen Ladden and senior
Yasmin Copeland set an new SJU mark and posted an ECAC qualifying time of 3:53.30.
Thuy Nguyen scored for SJU in the 800m, placing fourth in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:13.46. Nguyen also anchored the 4x800 relay that included
Rebecca Powell,
Kelly Victory and
Mary Crossin with a time of 9:14.14.
Next up for SJU are the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Championships at the Universty of Rhode Island on Saturday.
