PHILADELPHIA (03/22/03) - Saint Joseph's won its third straight match and improved to 7-5 on the season with a 6-1 home win over Duquense on Saturday. SJU swept all six singles matches in the victory.
At number one singles, sophomore Francisco Velazquez was a 7-6, 2-6, 6-0 victor, while freshman Jimmy Holland had a tough 7-6, 7-5 win at #2. With the win, Holland now sports a 17-10 record, the second most wins in a season by a Hawk, only surpassed by Velazquez's 21 last year.
Classmate Chris Spencer earned a three-set win at third singles with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win and sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan won handily, 6-2, 6-2, at #4.
Freshmen Greg Chang (6-4, 6-3) and A.J. Garabedian (6-1, 6-1) were winners at #5 and #6 singles, respectively.
Despite losing the doubles point, Velazquez and Pangilinan won 8-4 at first doubles.
SJU returns to action on Tuesday at Lafayette.
