PHILADELPHIA (04/22/03) - Saint Joseph's sophomore men's tennis player Francisco Velazquez has been named to the 2003 Atlantic 10 all-conference team, in voting conducted among the league's head coaches. Velazquez, who was named to the team last spring as well, becomes the first Hawk to receive the honor twice.
The Aruba native recorded an 18-12 record during the 2002-03 season, including a 14-9 mark at #1 singles. Teaming with classmate Van Homer Pangilinan, Velazquez compiled a 16-7 doubles mark from the first and second positions.
He now sports a 39-20 career record and is second on the all-time wins list behind Frank Barnett, who compiled a 46-1 record from 1968-71. His .661 career winning percentage ranks him sixth all-time on Hawk Hill.
The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team had its best season in 30 years, recording a 14-6 overall record and a best-ever fifth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
