MEN'S ROWERS CLAIM BRONZE AT HEAD OF THE CHARLES

BOSTON (10/19/02) - The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team sent just one boat to Boston over the weekend to participate in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta, but that crew pulled off one of the most stunning results in Hawk rowing history by placing third in the 41 boat field to capture a bronze medal in the collegiate eight competition. Featuring a mixed crew of both heavyweights and lightweights, which included sophomore Matt Mullin, junior Pat McGettigan, senior John Joyce, senior Jason Bansch, junior Joe Franks, sophomore Ray Cawley, junior Chris Barrett, junior Matt Gantner and coxswain Charlie Koob, the Hawks covered the nearly three mile course in a time of 15:33.5, finishing just behind Hobart College (15:18.54) and Minnesota (15:23.57). The men return to the water in this weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill.
