PHILADELPHIA (10/02/03) -- Saint Joseph's has cracked the polls for the first time this season and the season opener is still six weeks away. Thanks to five starters returning and a 19-11 record in 2002-03,
Street and Smith's 2003 College Basketball Yearbook has ranked the Hawks 24th in its preseason poll. SJU is also the smallest school, enrollment wise, to be ranked in Street and Smith's men's (19th) and women's polls.
SJU is one of only two Catholic universities to be listed in both the men's and women's polls, joining Notre Dame. Ten teams, including Connecticut owning the top spot in both rankings, have teams listed in each poll.
The publication also named senior center
Irina Krasnoshiok to its preseason All-American team. The Moldovan native received honorable mention status after averaging 14.3 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game last season.
