PHILADELPHIA (01/23/03) - Saint Joseph's University junior point guard Jameer Nelson was named to The Sporting News' Midseason All-America Team. Nelson, who has guided the Hawks to a 13-2 overall record and first place in the Atlantic 10 East Division (5-1), is joined on the five-man squad by shooting guard Matt Carroll of Notre Dame, center Nick Collison of Kansas, power forward Brian Cook of Illinois and small forward Jarvis Hayes of Georgia. A three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honoree, Nelson leads SJU in scoring (18.5 ppg.), rebounding (5.1 rpg.), assists (4.9 apg.) and steals (2.7 spg.).
