HAWKS PLACE TWO PLAYERS ON ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

PHILADELPHIA (5/6/04) - Seniors Megan Gresh and Amie Schmoltze were named to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse team in voting conducted among the league's sports information directors. It is the sixth straight season that SJU has placed at least two players on the academic all-conference team.

Gresh, a four-year starter and team captain, earns academic honors for the second straight season. The Turnersville, N.J. product made the transition from defense to midfield and established career highs in goals (eight), assists (nine) and points (17) in 2004. Gresh also scooped up 28 groundballs to give her 119 for her career, good for fifth in Hawk history. The senior is a biology major with a 3.81 GPA.

Schmoltze, a psychology major with a 3.52 GPA, is named to the academic all-conference team for the first time in her career. A three-year starter, she scored 15 goals, seven assists and 22 points, good for fourth on the team. Also a member of the field hockey team at SJU, Schmoltze picked up all-conference and academic all-conference honors this fall.

The women's lacrosse team finished its season with an 8-6 overall record and 2-5 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The eight wins tie for the most wins at Saint Joseph's, tying the 1996 team that also went 8-6.
