PHILADELPHIA (3/27/04) -- Saint Joseph's remained hot in preparation for next week's Atlantic 10 Championships by winning its fifth straight match with a 7-0 victory over Fordham (2-2). All six singles matches were decided in straight sets as SJU improved to 8-6 on the season.
Junior Francisco Velazquez was the only singles player to be challenged, but he responded with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at #1 singles. Sophomore Chris Spencer dropped just one game in his 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. Sophomore A.J. Garabedian won 6-4, 6-1 at #3 and junior Van Homer Pangilinan was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at #4 singles.
Sophomores Antonio Aniello (6-0, 6-1) and Jeff Olson (6-0, 6-3) were SJU winners at #5 and #6, respectively.
In doubles action, Velazquez and Pangilinan won 8-2 at #1, Garabedian and Olson won 8-1 at #2, and Spencer and Aniello won 8-1 at #3.
