PHILADELPHIA (4/12/02) - Junior Kelly Kurtz scored five goals to lead Massachusetts in an 11-3 win over Saint Joseph's on a cold and wet Finnesey Field. Sophomore
Kristin Teklinsky tallied two goals and one assist for Hawks, now 2-7, 1-2, in the Atlantic 10 loss.

Massachusetts jumped out to an early start when sophomore Hope Zelinger scored an assisted goal in the first three minutes to take a 1-0 lead. Teklinsky responded off an assist from Hungate to tie the game at the 20-minute mark and the Hawks took the lead when Hungate blasted in an assisted goal from Teklinsky. The Minutewomen then went on a three goal spree, blasting in consecutive goals. SJU's defense contained UMass, holding them scoreless for the final 15 minutes of the half.
At intermission, the Minutewomen led 4-2. Massachusetts netted the first goal at the two-minute mark to open up the second half with a three goal lead. Despite SJU's tireless defensive efforts, UMass pummeled seven unanswered goals into the Hawk net, running away with a win on Finnesey Field. With 1 second remaining in the game, Teklinsky scored a goal off a free position shot to end the game 11-3.
Massachusetts outshot Saint Joseph's, 20-15 but Hawk keeper
Kimberly Williams made 17 saves in the cage while Minutewoman Cyndi Doyle made 10 saves.
SJU, now 2-7, 1-2, will travel to across town to face Temple on Sunday. That game is set for Noon. Massachusetts moves to 7-4.
