Philadelphia, PA.(4/21/01) - A limited squad raced the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill on Saturday. The Varsity 8, led by seniors Brian Timby, Sean Quinn, Mike Juhline, and Dan Goettner advanced to the final with #13 Temple, #18 Dowling, and #23 Marist along with Rochester and William & Mary. Temple took control right from the start, passing the 500m pole in first place followed by Marist, Dowling, and SJU in a tight pack. As the boats came through Strawberry Mansion Bridge, Dowling moved on Temple to battle for first as the Hawks continued to battle with Marist for third. SJU made a move at the wire to pull within a seat or two of Marist. In the end, Temple pulled out the victory as Marist edged SJU.
