POTENT DAYTON ATTACK SUBDUES SJU

DAYTON, OH (03/29/02) - Dayton (13-6, 4-1 A-10) pounded out 35 hits and scored 38 runs to sweep Saint Joseph's (3-19-1, 1-4 A-10), 12-4 and 26-2, in doubleheader action at Stuart Field. SJU fell behind early in both games and was never able to get its attack on track. Junior Kevin Dougher went 3-6 and scored three runs and freshman Brian Anecharico and junior Michael Walls homered to provide the highlights for the Hawks. The Flyers jumped on Hawk starters Erik Holman (game one) and Al Braun (game two), plating five runs in the first inning off each. Both would suffer losses on the day with Holman falling to 1-4 and Braun slipping to 0-6. In game one SJU showed a little bit of spirit, adding a pair of runs on a two-run homer by Anecharico in the second iniing and then two more in the seventh. In game two, SJU fell behind 13-0. They then added a pair of runs in in the third, but UD scored 13 unanswered to win the game. SJU will conclude the three-game series tomorrow afternoon, first pitch is scheduled for noon.
