FORMER HAWK ROWERS TO COMPETE AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AND OLYMPICS

INDIANAPOLIS (7/12/04) - Former Hawk rower Renee Hykel, a 2001 Saint Joseph's University graduate, will represent the United States at the 2004 FISA World Rowing Championships scheduled to run July 27-August 1 in Banyoles, Spain. Another former SJU rower, Mike Teti (Class of 1978) will serve as the Head Coach of the U.S. men's National Team that will compete at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Hykel, who qualified in the Women's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls, won her trial heats with times of 6:30.14 and 6:40.10.

No stranger to International elite racing, Hykel was a 2003 National Champion in four events and competed at the 2003 World Championships. A native of Haverford, Pa., she currently rows out of the Undine Boat Club located on Boathouse Row.
