MONROEVILLE, PA (4/8/04) -- Saint Joseph's advanced to the semifinals of the 2004 Atlatnic 10 Men's Tennis Championships on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Dayton. SJU dropped the doubles point, but won four singles matches to earn to win and improve to 9-7 on the season.
Sophomores
Chris Spencer and
Antonio Aniello (8-4) were the only doubles winners as the Hawks went into the singles matches down 1-0.
In singles action, sophomore
Jimmy Holland was a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner at #2 followed by Spencer at #3 (3-6, 6-1, 6-2). Junior
Van Homer Pangilinan won at #5 6-4, 6-3 and Aniello was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at #6.
Saint Joseph's, the third seed, advances to play second-seeded George Washington in the semifinals. The Colonials downed Temple, 4-0, in the quarterfinals.
