Legendary Former Hawk Coach Ramsay to Appear at SJU

DR. JACK RAMSAY TO BE INDUCTED INTO SCHOLAR-ATHLETE HALL OF FAME

KINGSTON, RI (06/17/03) - Dr. Jack Ramsay, the legendary Saint Joseph's men's basketball coach who guided the Hawks to 10 postseason tournaments in 11 seasons (1955-66), will lead a class of inductees into the Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame. The induction ceremonies will take place on Saturday, June 21 at the Institute for International Sport in Kingston, R.I. as part of the United States Scholar-Athlete Games. A member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Ramsay, who posted an overall career coaching record of 1126-862, including a 234-72 record on Hawk Hill, will be part of a class that includes Olympic decathlon champion Bob Mathias, the man who broke Major League baseball's color barrier, Jackie Robinson, WNBA president Val Ackerman, noted author and basketball coach Clair Bee, filmmaker Bud Greenspan, Texas women's basketball coach Jody Conradt, running pioneer Katherine Switzer, Olympic greats Frank Shorter and Charlie Moore, former Holy Cross President Orel Lyons, Title IX legislation sponsor Patsy Mink, former Major League baseball player and United States spy Moe Berg, baseball great Christy Mathewson, former Secretary of Defense William Cohen and the godfather of sports writing Frank Queen. The class will also include the 1944 Cal Tech football team, the 1977 Delta State women's basketball team and the 1996 Williams College women's lacrosse team.
