NEW YORK, NY (03/29/03) -- Saint Joseph's won its fifth consecutive match and improved to 9-5 on the spring season with a 7-0 whitewashing at Fordham.
Sophomore Francisco Velazquez started things off with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at first singles, and freshman Jimmy Holland followed with a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win at #2. With the win, Holland earned his 13th victory of the season at second singles, setting a new SJU single season record. Sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan took three sets to earn a win at third singles, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. It was Pangilinan's fifth consecutive win.
The freshman trio of Greg Chang, A.J. Garabedian and Antonio Aniello combined to not drop a set in taking fourth through sixth singles. Chang won easily, 6-1, 6-0, at fourth singles, Garabedian won 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2) at fifth singles and Aniello picked up his fifth straight win with a 6-0, 6-2 victor at #6.
In doubles, Velazquez and Pangilinan teamed up for a 8-5 win at first doubles and Holland and Garabedian were 8-1 winners at second. Wrapping up the scoring was junior Bobby Cappelli and Aniello, who scored an 8-2 win at #3.
