JERSEY CITY, NJ (2/9/04) -- The Hawks had little trouble in picking up their first win of the season with a convincing 7-0 win over Saint Peter's on Monday afternoon. SJU lost just 10 games in sweeping the six singles matches in straight sets.
Junior
Francisco Velazquez was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #1 singles, while sophomore
Chris Spencer picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #2. Sophomore
Jimmy Holland followed with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing at #3 singles and junior
Van Homer Pangilinan was almost as good with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #4. Sophomore
A.J. Garabedian was another 6-0, 6-0 winner at #5 singles, and classmate
Antonio Aniello strung together a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #6 singles.
In doubles action, Saint Joseph's won 8-2 in all three matchups. Velazquez and Pangilinan teamed for a #1 doubles win, followed by Garabedian/Holland and Aniello/Spencer at #2 and #3, respectively.
