A late goal by Fordham's Omer Rozen helped the Rams past Saint Joseph's men's soccer team 1-0 Friday evening at Finnesey Field.
With less than 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Fordham earned a corner kick to the right side of the field. On the ensuing play, Saint Joseph's keeper Rob Lavorerio batted the ball forward. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Rozen quickly collected the ball and beat Lavorerio to the right side to put Fordham up 1-0 at 78:58.
Saint Joseph's sophomore Cliff Jones and freshman Andrew Tursi recorded shots in the wainign minutes, but failed to find the back of the net as Fordham held on for the victory.
In the first half, both squads limited each other offensively, as the Hawks held a slight 5-4 edge. But for the game Fordham outshot Saint Joseph's 14-10.
Between the pipes, senior Rob Lavorerio went without facing a shot in the first half and collected one save in the second. Fordham's Justin Burse made six saves to earn the shutout.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-11-1, and 0-6-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham improves to 8-3-4overall and 2-2-2 in conference play.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Sunday when it hosts St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
