Two early goals helped Duquesne to a 2-1 win over visiting Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 men's soccer opener for both teams. The Hawks fall to 1-6-1 (0-1) with the loss, while Duquesne improves to 7-2-0.
Tom Sochacki scored just 12 minutes into the match, with the assist from Scott Gibson. Gibson netted a goal just three minutes later, at 15:25, off a pass from Evan Browne.
Jim Slover got the Hawks on the board in the first half as well, netting the goal at 39:22 on a penalty kick. It was his second goal of the season.
Rob Lavorerio made six saves for Saint Joseph's as the Dukes outshot the Hawks, 22-4. Zach Varga made two saves for Duquesne.
SJU stays on the road to visit new A-10 member Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon.
