VCU Handles Hawk Diamondmen in Season Opener

Feb. 12, 2005

Box Score

RICHMOND, VA - A three run first inning produced a positive start for the Saint Joseph's baseball team (0-2) in 2005, but it was all Virginia Commonwealth the rest of the day as the Rams topped the Hawks 21-4 and 4-0. Senior Nick Baldasari homered for the Crimson and Gray.

Senior Ryan Hoagey (0-1) got the season-opening start on the hill and pitched 3.1 innings, striking out five. Baldasari was 2-4 with a homer and sophomore Mike Gentile went 1-3 with a couple of walks.

In game two junior Brian Anecharico and freshman Jason Hessler combined to hold VCU to just four runs, but St. Joe's could muster just a single hit by freshman Andrew Heineman in the team's final at bat to break up a no-hitter.

The teams conclude a three game series on Sunday.
