Feb. 17, 2005

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's junior Chet Stachitas has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 Men's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is now a candidate for Academic America honors.

Stachitas, from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Nease High School, is the Hawks' second leading scorer with 12.3 points per game. He has started all 22 games and owns some of the best shooting percentages on the team, hitting 43.1 of his field goal attempts, 39.0 from 3-point range and 77.6 percent from the foul line.

The 6-5 guard ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in 3-point percentage and is 13th in 3-point field goals made with 4.1 per game.

Stachitas has scored in double figures in all but seven games for the Hawks, who own the best record in the Atlantic 10 with a 10-1 conference mark. Saint Joseph's has rebounded from a 3-6 start to post an overall record of 13-9.

Stachitas owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 as a finance major. He has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll three times. The junior served as an Orientation Team Leader for the University's freshman class in 2004.
